Limax Maximus is inspired by the surprisingly elaborate and beautiful mating ritual of the leopard slug. In this act, the slugs climb up a tree and entwine as they suspend themselves on a fine thread of mucus, twirling until their mating organs open up like a white opaque flower. This works aims to elevates the lowly mollusc, demonstrating how beauty can be found in the most surprising places and, more pointedly, highlights the importance of entire ecosystems. The leopard slug was introduced to from Europe in the early 19th century and the full environmental impact of this species in Australia is unknown
